How to Read a Certificate of Analysis

Every purchase includes a full COA. Here's what to look for:

  1. Product Information — Verify the peptide name, sequence, and lot number match what you ordered.
  2. HPLC Purity — Look for the purity percentage (should be 98%+). The chromatogram should show a single dominant peak with minimal impurity peaks.
  3. Mass Spectrometry — Confirm the observed molecular weight matches the theoretical weight of the peptide. This verifies identity.
  4. Endotoxin Level — Should be below 0.5 EU/mg for injectable-grade peptides. The COA will state the actual measured value.
  5. Sterility Result — Should read "Pass" or "Sterile." Any "Fail" result means the batch should not be used.
  6. Heavy Metals — Each element (Pb, As, Hg, Cd) should be below ICH Q3D limits. The COA lists actual measured values.
  7. Testing Laboratory — Should be an independent third-party lab, not the manufacturer. This ensures unbiased results.
  8. Test Date & Signatures — Verify the test was performed recently and the document is signed by the analyzing scientist.
